Travel stories, a city trip to Lisbon in Portugal, the Palacio Sao Bento where the parliament is located


The construction of the neoclassical Benedictine monastery Sao Bento dates back to the end of the 16th century. The interior of Palacio Sao Bento is richly decorated with marble columns, neoclassical images and other art.

The Lisbon earthquake of 1755 damaged the neoclassical Benedictine Monastery of Sao Bento, but was rebuilt.

Later in history, the function of the neoclassical Benedictine Monastery of Sao Bento changed to Palacio das Cortes or the Parliament building. Since then, the Portuguese parliament has been sitting there.
